new and improved produce section at Manchester Market

Where do you buy your groceries? How far do you have to travel to get there? Do you shop at Manchester Market? What would you like to buy right here at your neighborhood store?

Learn how you can be involved in shaping Manchester Market to be your healthy neighborhood grocery store! Work with store owner Ed Shalabi and fellow community members in shaping our grocery store and neighborhood.

There will be a community-wide meeting on Wednesday, October 10 at 6 PM at Elements Partnership, located at 4512 Manchester, 1st floor (parking lot entrance), directly across from Manchester Market. Present at the meeting will include coordinators of the Healthy Corner Store Project, storeowner Ed Shalabi, and Park Central Development.

Projects include: free neighborhood cooking classes, community events, focus groups, advocating changes and improvements in the store itself, and more!

How you can be involved:

  • Be on the neighborhood team, which will be steering healthy food projects with Manchester Market
  • Be part of a focus group, to show why you do or don’t shop at Manchester Market, and what kinds of groceries you’d like to see
  • Join a FREE healthy cooking class
  • Fill out a survey here to better inform the community process and show what kinds of groceries you’d like to see

Please contact Stephanie at 262.4409 or Stephanie@parkcentraldevelopment.org if you’re interested in any or all of these!

Progress is continuing steadily at Manchester Market. Some of the larger improvements include relocating the produce freezer to the front of the store. In addition, Healthy Corner Store Project provided the store with new attractive produce baskets to entice customers to delicious bananas, sweet potatoes, and potatoes. In addition, owner Ed Shalabi has been carrying a larger variety of produce. And the best part is, with the new location, more customers are buying produce, and consequently the produce in stock is fresher, and Shalabi can afford to stock more variety.

In other exciting news, Manchester Market is now serving hot foods! Stay tuned for the grand opening, but if you’re looking for a quick lunch stop by for a sandwich, fried fish or chicken, or more. (It’s true, these aren’t incredibly healthy options, but they are delicious.)
